Synopsis

When Wall Street bond trader Robert “Rob” Sanctus is told he has three months to live, he declines treatment and decides to face the end on his own terms while chronicling his final thirty-six hours of life. But, as he wanders through New York City those last two days, life has other plans. An attempted mugging becomes an unlikely moment of grace. A box of Girl Scout cookies turns into a chain reaction of kindness. A small Brooklyn bartender offers unexpected wisdom, and a mysterious church opens a door to a peace he thought he’d long lost. Through a series of raw, humorous, and profoundly human encounters, Rob finds himself rediscovering faith, compassion, the guiding hand of God, and the simple power of choosing to care—one stranger, one act of kindness at a time. Told through Rob’s intimate journal, which is book-ended by a forward and an afterword from a financial advisor, My Last Day is a moving meditation on regret, redemption, and what it really means to live while you’re alive.

Facing a terminal diagnosis, Rob Sanctus resolves to bring his life to a close the next night. But his last journey through New York, a city he has come to love, unfolds like a spiritual awakening. Strangers cross his path at just the right moments. Memories surface with unexpected clarity. And Rob slowly discovers that even in his final hours, life offers connection, meaning, and grace. In a world where choice and destiny are often indistinguishable, Rob must confront the possibility that some of life's directions might be guided, and sometimes things are just meant to be, not understood. Will he have the courage to accept a gentle nudge from above?
